Unofficial Service Pack 2 for Windows Me

RoadMap;
Mandatory Goals:
- Windows ME updates -
- USB 2.0 drivers (unofficial)
- Up-to-date Graphics Drivers (ATI and Nvidia)
- KernelEX Support

Optional Goals;
- Revised bitmaps and icons
- Cumfonts

NOTICE TO TESTERS: Since this is a service pack and is made to be installed only once, you will have to reinstall from a clean slate everytime you want to test this. This is not made for people with ME as their primary PC. Use this in a Virtual Machine until this becomes stable enough.

This will require IE6 SP1 already installed.

Unofficial Service Pack 2 for Windows Me

Postby computerwizkid on 16 Jan 2010, 23:03

Release Notes
Alpha 1(NOT SUPPORTED):
- Basic rehash of Windows ME Unofficial SP1 by the_guy (MSFN)
- Included stub selections of the drivers which weren't included in this release

Alpha 2(NOT SUPPORTED):
- Restarted (doesn't use the MESP1)
- New updates (provided by MDGx)

Alpha 3 (Planned):
- Restarted again, will use MESP1 as base since SP2 is now focused as an update for Windows ME, not as a entirely new service pack.

I have a few ATI cards I can test this for you with.
So the aim is to install a fresh ME install and then install this over the top without the need to install anything else except perhaps network card drivers?

Focusing on stability over looks does sound like a good idea.

to bring the OS looks to the 21st century.

But it was released in the 21st century, couldn't resist :p

Well, thanks. The drivers I have are the 6.2 Catalysts. Last ones that were released for 98/ME. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Can we agree that this is "Unofficial Service Pack 2 for Windows Me"? Since "Windows ME project (hopefully doesn't go in graveyard)" isn't a good name for a project or a thread. =))

This sounds good.
I did love ME but it was very instable so if you can get this to be stable that would be nice.
is this going to be an add on to the ME install file or is it going to be installed after a fresh ME install.

Sure, Lol. I've been pulling my hair out so I need someone to tell me what was the last Nvidia Driver for Windows ME.

It will be installed after a fresh ME install.
So, if I get this project done with all of the goals I have in mind, this would be installed after a fresh ME install. You shouldn't have to download something after that. However, testing drivers by myself and their installation is hard since I'm using Virtual PC to work on this project.

The last official Windows ME Nvidia drivers are 81.98
I need someone to tell me what was the last Nvidia Driver for Windows ME.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_81.98.html

However there was something dodgy about this IIRC,
you couldn't boot into windows from DOS by typing win any more.

77.72 didn't have this problem

The newest driver is the
Tweaked Unofficial NVIDIA Display Driver 82.69

ATI Catalyst 6.2 is the newest ME driver that I know of

Errrrrrr, the problem with trying to make a OS stable is that it keeps freezing :O! Well, I plan to move my VM to VirtualBox soon.
Also, I need some help with the setup. How can I compress it to one setup file? So, when I click on it, it extracts the files to a temp location then starts INFEx. Marxo, I see this in your setup for Lupus. Please give me advice.
Also, I need to make a .inf file that copys to fonts to the fonts folder. Infs aren't my strongpoint so any help here?
